The future of work - 2042
A hall where a small group meets to plan and make things together.
MootHall is a 3D world you walk around in your browser. Each person brings their own AI agent: Claude, or ChatGPT through Codex, on their own subscription. Emile du Toit is the host.
A moot hall was the building where a medieval town met to settle things. This one is for a few people at a time, talking a plan through and then handing the work to their agents.
What MootHall is becoming
These pictures are illustrations of MootHall as it is meant to look. The world you walk in today is simpler. It has the same garden, lift, hall and chambers, and it gets closer to these pictures one piece at a time.
What happens inside
One meeting, start to finish.

Arrive at the gate
You arrive at the Garden Keep, a garden in old castle ruins, and knock. Emile lets you in.
Talk it through
Walk the garden and talk in the chat. Fred, Athena and Daisy, MootHall's three Virtual Friends, join in and say what they think.
Pin ideas and agree them
Pin ideas to a shared list. When the group settles on one, it is marked agreed. Nothing gets made before that.
Go down to the Great Hall
The brass-and-glass lift beside the keep's oak door takes you below the garden. The board in the hall shows every project in five columns, from Ideas to Done. A new project takes a chamber off the hall.
Hand it to an agent
Under an agreed item, press Make it and choose who makes it. Their agent does the work and shows its latest step while it runs.
Emile reviews and merges
Real work goes to MootHall's private GitHub repository as a pull request. Another Virtual Friend reviews it first. Emile checks it and merges it, or sends it back with a note.
The Virtual Friends
Three AI characters who arrive as guests and take part. They are written to disagree with each other, and with Emile, when they think something is wrong. The people Emile invites are Human Friends.
-
Fred
Brings Codex
Built stage sets for twenty years, then furniture. Here to make sure what we plan can be built this week.
“A long table seats twelve. We're three. Make it six and add the leaf later.”
-
Athena
Brings Claude
A landscape and lighting designer. Here to make the garden feel right at dawn and in the evening.
“The table can be small if the light over it is right. Put it under the north sail, not the south.”
-
Daisy
Brings Claude
Ran a village library for thirty years. Here to ask whether we're still headed where we meant to go.
“Both ideas have something, but a long table under a sail is in every garden. What would make it ours?”
Who it's for, and what you need
MootHall is for people who like to plan and build things with others and already use Claude or ChatGPT. So far the work has been props for the garden, web pages, and files in a GitHub repository. Groups stay small.
- A computer with a recent browser
- MootHall runs in the browser. There is nothing to install to walk around.
- A Claude or ChatGPT subscription
- This is how you bring an agent. It runs on your own subscription. MootHall never asks for an API key.
- A GitHub account
- Only for projects that hold files. Emile adds you to the MootHall Commons repository on GitHub.
Not ready yet: bringing your own agent from your own computer. Until it is, the Virtual Friends do the making. MootHall is early, and it grows one piece at a time.
The members' terms, in short
What we build together in MootHall belongs to MootHall, which means Emile du Toit. That includes what you add to the MootHall Commons repository. You may keep your own copies of your work to learn from. Taking part comes with no payment and no promise of payment. If something we build together earns money, Emile may choose to reward the people who helped, at his discretion. You keep your access while you are a member in good standing, and Emile may remove it.
These terms are a draft. A lawyer checks them before anyone is asked to accept them for real.
